Notaries Now: What’s New in 2026?

This program is available for self-study or facilitated study over a live Zoom call with expert Lisa Preuveneers.

We have prepared detailed notes as per the following Table of Contents and introduction. The content is the same for self-study or distance learning (as we sometime call it).

To gain accredited CPE points:

Self-study read through the notes, follow the many external links to addition information and complete a Questionnaire. To make this as easy as possible, the questionnaire is included in the notes, and it is emailed to you separately as a Word document to complete and email back.

Popular because: the study can be undertaken at a time of your choosing.

Face to face via a live Zoom call

The full set of notes are emailed to you together with a Zoom meeting invitation well in advance.

You are expected to read these ahead of the live online, one-hour lecture  discussion session.

Popular because: the small group session enables you to ask questions of other notaries also on the Zoom call.

Choose from these dates: 24th Sept. Thurs. 3 pm | 1st Oct.  Thurs. 11.30 am | 13th Oct. Tues. 4 pm

Introduction:

Are you aware that late in 2025 the FO’s website received a major structural overhaul and now contains 225 pages?

When was the last time you looked at the Faculty Office website?  So you don’t have to, I have scoured the site and provided, within these notes,  my usual roundup of what’s new and trending.

We start with the News section; some important items are marked READ THIS or MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.  Some are covered in my two other accredited CPE programs, and some are external reports for background completeness.

Next we go behind the scenes at the Faculty Office as we ‘eavesdrop’ on what is discussed at  the Master’s Forum, Council and Qualifications Board meetings.  A topic that has been around for years is practice, or entity, regulation.  As I reviewed various meeting notes and reports , I noted concern around the use of technology  and how to ensure that the profession remains relevant.  Read more in the “The Increasing Use of Artificial Intelligence” section of these notes.

This year I include the “For the Public” section; I thought it might be useful for you to know what the public may know already about what to expect from you.  This leads us to what your website says about you or rather what it doesn’t. Apparently many notaries who share a website with a solicitor’s firm had failed to provide separate polices and regulatory information for the notarial practice.

Of course you don’t have to have a website, but if you do have one, Notarial Rules requires that certain  information is included.

I have included some feedback-for-me-questions in The Questionnaire that you must complete and submit to me to get your certificate of PASS.  Please feel free to add any comments.

Good luck,

Lisa Preuveneers
